Recognize Bank has appointed Julian Sawyer, former chief operating officer of Starling Bank, as a non-executive director (NED).
In addition to Starling Bank, Sawyer brings a wealth of banking and fintech experience to the Recognize Bank board, and his previous positions include CEO positions at Zodia Custody and Bitstamp.
Recognize Bank recently announced that it had increased its loan book to more than £500 million, while deposits recently surpassed £600 million.
Commenting on his appointment, Sawyer said: “I am very excited to join Simon and the Recognize Bank Board at such a pivotal time for the bank. Recognize Bank is poised for its next phase of growth having achieved over 45% growth in the last 12 months. My experience in high growth businesses will help position Recognize Bank as the mortgage lender of choice for SMEs.”
Simon Bateman, CEO of Recognize Bank, adds: “Bringing in someone of Julian’s caliber shows how far we have come as a bank in such a relatively short period of time.”
“Fintech plays an important role in any bank’s operational and strategic roadmap, so Julian’s detailed knowledge of this sector will, no doubt, be key as we build our capabilities for borrowers, savers and intermediaries and continue to lead as the ‘Decisive Bank.’
