MIT Live: Review of temporary mortgage rules here by Christmas, says FCA – Mortgage Strategy

The interim document to review the Mortgage Rules (MRR) will be published before Christmas, according to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

MRR is a wide-ranging initiative by the FCA to revamp the mortgage market, with the aim of simplifying the process of buying homes and obtaining a mortgage and encouraging an efficient and competitive market.

The FCA was originally scheduled to publish the interim MRR in the second quarter of 2026, and today the regulator has confirmed it will be here by Christmas.

Speaking at Mortgage Strategy’s MIT Live event in London, the FCA’s director of business and digital intelligence, Ian Phoenix, said: “The (temporary) MRR will be rolled out closer to Christmas.

“Look for the (interim) report to be released later in the year.”

Phoenix added: “In the coming weeks, we will update our survey with the Bank of England on AI in financial services. Stay tuned.”
