The alarm goes off when…
…6.15 am.
A typical day includes…
…an hour of dog walking to start my day. Then I head to the office, a short distance from my house.
I’m in the office by 9:30 a.m. and then I check and respond to emails. A day can include anything from two to three client meetings, order completion, affordability assessments, and recommendation reports.
The difference in my role is what keeps it interesting
My role varies between mortgages, pensions and investments, but I spend a lot of time speaking with clients, lenders, service providers and business development managers.
I usually leave the office by 5.30pm. After sitting at my desk most of the day, I like to go for another walk with the dogs and often listen to a podcast at the same time.
I wanted to work in mortgage because…
…I enjoy being able to help people at a time that can be very stressful for them.
This is an ever-changing industry and I really enjoy the challenge of learning new skills or technical expertise
One of the most satisfying parts of the job is helping someone buy the home of their dreams when they didn’t think it would be possible.
The thing that surprised me about my work is…
…how diverse it is, from customer attitudes to lender criteria and product availability.
I had no idea the amounts and types of solutions that would be available, and this is constantly changing and evolving, allowing me to help more clients.
There is a misconception about my role..
…that I can only assist with the mortgage application and not with all the pre- and post-application work that comes with it to ensure the process is as smooth as possible for clients.
This client was so truly grateful that it inspired me to help more people in a similar situation
There is a lot that goes into getting a mortgage. Clients are often unaware of what they need to do in the years and months before they consider applying. I can advise them on all of this, and make sure they are properly informed once the mortgage is in place and protected for the future.
Among the advantages of the job…
…the ability to build relationships with many people and gain experience in many fields. This relates to both clients and professionals, helping me build on my experience and expand my knowledge.
This is an ever-changing industry and I really enjoy the challenge of learning new skills or technical expertise. The variety in my role is what makes it interesting, and I look forward to spending many more years in this profession.
I enjoy being able to help people at a time that can be very stressful for them
My favorite work memory is…
…Received a thank you note from a client who was happy that I was able to arrange a mortgage for him.
It was very difficult given their circumstances and the property they wanted to buy, but we made it work. They were truly grateful that it inspired me to help more people in a similar situation.
To relax after work,…
…I usually like to reset by going out for a walk with my dogs.
It gives me a chance to clear my mind and get some fresh air. I’ll often do a podcast while I’m out and about – sometimes something work-related if I’m in the mood to stay productive, but more often than not it’s a lighthearted one like comedy or a celebrity podcast that helps me properly unwind.
I spend a lot of time talking with clients, lenders, service providers, and business development managers
I enjoy spending my evenings doing things that feel creative or social. Cooking is something I find very relaxing, so I love trying new recipes and experimenting in the kitchen, both for myself and when I’m spending time with friends.
Reading is another way I like to slow things down. It helps me get away from screens and get lost in something different.
I also have a soft spot for a good, slightly cheesy box set and could easily spend a few hours digesting it. I now enjoy documentaries, which I find entertaining and interesting. This is definitely one of my favorite ways to relax in the evening.
