The number of residential properties at auction rose 8.1% year-on-year in September, although the number sold fell slightly, according to data from EIG.
A total of 4,382 residential plots of land were offered at auction during the month, compared to 4,053 plots in September 2025.
However, the number sold decreased by 1.1% from 2,905 to 2,873, while the percentage sold decreased from 71.7% to 65.6%.
Total amounts raised from residential auctions also fell by 5.5% from £533.4 million to £504.3 million.
Despite the weak monthly numbers, the annual numbers remained higher than the previous year.
In the 12 months to September, the number of residential plots on offer rose 11.3% to 40,064, while the number sold rose 9.1% to 27,303.
Across the auction market as a whole, 4,903 lots were offered in September, up 5.7% year-on-year, while sales volumes fell by 2.5%.
The national pass rate fell to 65.9%, while the total amount fell by 12.8% to £593.7m.
Matt Burrows, a member of the Propertymark NAVA Advisory Committee, says: “It is encouraging to see the continued growth in auction activity, with the number of residential lots on offer increasing by 11.3% and lots sold by 9.1% over the 12 months to September.
“However, the latest monthly results show that growth in supply is not being matched by sales, reinforcing the importance of realistic seller expectations and sound professional advice.
“Technology can support how we deliver our services, but professional judgment remains key to capturing buyer interest and achieving successful outcomes for sellers.”
